Message from Chairman
No country can live in isolation in the advent of globalization . Bangladesh as a developing country is flourishing gradually . Bangladesh government has established Bangladesh Sthala Bandar Kartripaksha (BSBK) in 2001 with a view to facilitate bilateral/trilateral trade with neighbouring countries like India, Nepal, Myanmar & Bhutan. Out of 179 land customs station 16 have been declared as Land Ports in the meantime and placed under the control of BSBK.
Benapole Land Port started operation in 2001. Other four land ports Teknaf, Sonamosjid, Hilli & Bibirbazar have gone under operation in 2004, 2006, 2007 & 2009 respectively. These four ports are being operated on BOT basis by the non-government operators investing huge amount of money in the sector. Within six years, BSBK has earned of Tk 3095 lac in a Tariff and deposited in government exchequer. It has also generated employment opportunities for more than ten thousand families directly or indirectly. The rest ten land ports will be brought under operation in phase. BSBK plays an important role in facilitating foreign trade with the neighbouring countries through land ports. Through the Balance of trade with one big neighbour India is not in our favour Bangladesh will improve this position by boosting up exports wider market access of our goods and commodities in Indian market gradually.
BSBK is also encouraging the private investor in the PPP (public-private-partnership) projects in the land port sector. Infrastructural development of these ports is going on as per planning. There is a great prospect of development as well as employment opportunities when all these ports will go on operation. Thus BSBK will be able to contribute more in the development of national economy .
I draw the kind attention of all visitors to have a glimpse of our webpage. Any queries comments and suggestions about our organization would be highly appreciated.
